THE Kota Baru-Kuala Krai highway Package 2B – a 6.2km stretch from Ketereh to Kok Lanas – was supposed to be completed a month ago but is now facing a 308-day (23%) delay.
Economy Minister Mustapa Mohamed said the highway project, which involves seven packages with a total estimated cost of RM2.7 billion, is expected to be completed by 2025.
Two packages are completed, while five others are in the construction phase, he added.
“Packages 2C and 3A Kok Lanas-Bukit Tiu (19.13km), 3B Kampung Berangan Mek Nab-Keroh (9.78km) and 3C Keroh-Kuala Krai (8.6km) are proceeding according to schedule.
“The Kelantan Public Works Department is taking steps to overcome the delay and prepare the project, including dismissing the contractor involved.”
Mustapa said expansion and upgrading works are also met with a delay at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa, which is another “sick project”.
“The main issues behind the 100-day delay are manpower shortage, rise in construction costs and unsatisfactory contractor performance.” – Bernama, June 14, 2022.
